witness’s prior consistent statement is admissible to BOLSTER the witness’s credibility on DIRECT.
prior inconsistent statements are not admissible for the truth of the matter asserted, EVEN IF they were made under oath/in a court proceeding, they can ONLY be used to impeach and not for any substantive purpose.
you NEVER have to give a witness an opportunity to explain or deny an inconsistent statement once they are off the witness stand.
